The vaccination camp has been organized by Greater Chennai Corporation (GCC) in Tamil Nadu’s Chennai. The camp was commenced on Thursday at 7 am. Around 400 vaccination camps would be conducted in 200 wards of the city.
According to the press release by the civic body, during this camp special care would be provided to the differently-abled, pregnant women, lactating mothers, people with high blood pressure and diabetes. Special camps would be conducted for people residing in slum areas.
On Wednesday, Tamil Nadu recorded 1,573 positive cases of Covid-19, the number of positive cases has been raised to 26,05,647. In the same period, the number of deaths reported was 27 and the death toll rose to 34,788.

Around 1.25 lakh Covid-19 jabs would be administered during this mega vaccination drive. Corporation Commissioner Gagandeep Singh Bedi said that 400 medical teams, with each team comprising a medical officer, nurse, data entry operator and a helper, had been kept ready for the drive.

On Wednesday, the Tamil Nadu government issued a set of directions to the district collectors regarding reducing the spread of the pandemic. According to the media agency PTI, the government said, “It is noticed that in hotels, especially popular restaurants, 50 percent occupancy by leaving adjacent chairs vacant is not followed. Similarly, in functions involving eating at a common point- whether religious or family or cultural, especially events such as marriage, birthday, funeral, office and workplace-related functions and in activities in the gated communities and row houses and also in main shopping streets and roadside shops, buses, railway stations, social distance, masks and applicable SOPs are being flouted.”
The collectors were advised that this may be monitored and (SOPs) enforced.
