Chennai woman dies by suicide after relentless online-trolling for ‘dropping her child’

A video showing the rescue of the deceased's 8-month-old baby went viral on social media, following which online trolls shamed for 'carelessness'.

Online trolling claimed a real life as an IT professional from Chennai killed herself after relentless trolling on Social Media. V Ramya (33), had accidentally dropped her child while breastfeeding from the gallery of her fourth floor apartment on April 28. The baby then landed on a first floor balcony. The baby was then rescued by locals after about 15 minutes of rescue by the locals. The video of the rescue went viral on social media, following which netizens and certain news channel accused the mother of being careless and shamed her. 

As per reports, Ramya, had fallen into severe depression following the incident and was under medication for the same. Ramya worked in an IT firm in Chennai. Her husband Venkatesh is also an IT professional. She had gone to her paternal home in Coimbatore to escape the trolling, but to no avail. According to reports, her parents and husband had gone to a function, leaving Ramya alone in the house. When they return, they found her lying unconscious. They rushed her to the hospital, where she was declared her dead.

Sources say that Ramya was already reeling from guilt as her child slipped from her hands and dropped from the fourth floor to the first floor. A neighbor, who was present during the incident, was quoted saying that Ramya was feeling extremely guilty for letting the accident happen, and that the media should be sensitive and not add to the grief.

It is pertinent to note that her eight-month-old baby was rescued after about 15 minutes of intense effort and escaped without any injuries. However, the online trolls kept adding to her woes, shaming her for ‘carelessness’, with certain media channels accusing her of ‘letting the accident happen’.
