BJP MLA Ramdular Gond was sentenced to 25 years of imprisonment and fined 10 lakhs in a court hearing today. The case was registered at the Myorpur police station in 2014, where the BJP MLA was accused of raping a teenage girl for a year. The verdict has been issued after 9 long years. The fined amount will be given to the victim. The MLA also reportedly begged for a reduced sentence in front of the court, saying he has kids who are currently in school.
MLA Ramdular Gond was reported to the police in November 2014 by the victim’s brother. He claimed that he had been threatening and raping his sister, who was a minor, for almost a whole year. The police had registered a case against the MLA under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POSCO) Act. According to reports, the victim was impregnated during the ordeal and now has an eight year old daughter.
Ramdular was not the MLA at the time that the case was registered. He is currently the MLA of Duddhi, UP. At the time the case was registered, the victim was only 15-years old. Ramdular’s political stature continued to grow and he was elected MLA of the Duddhi constituency of BJP in 2022.
Ramdular was found guilty of the charges on December 12. The court ruled that the punishment would be decided on December 15. The court has sentenced him to 25 years of imprisonment and fined him 10 lakhs INR. He will lose his BJP membership.
The victim’s family expressed their content at the MLA’s conviction. The fight for justice had not been easy, but the family is somewhat relieved that Ramdular has now been punished for his heinous acts. The fined amount will be given to the victim’s family.
