In a significant operation, the CIA team of Jalandhar Rural Police has dismantled an inter-district vehicle theft gang, arresting three members and recovering nine stolen two-wheelers, including eight motorcycles and one scooter. This operation is part of a larger crackdown on street crime across district borders.

The arrested accused have been identified as Sorav Kumar alias Sobha, son of Rajinder Singh, resident of Khurdpur, Police Station Adampur, Jalandhar; Sunil Kumar, son of Maluk Singh, also a resident of Khurdpur, Police Station Adampur, Jalandhar; and Sukhraj Kumar alias Ghannu, son of Sewa Ram, resident of Khurdpur, Police Station Adampur, Jalandhar.

Divulging more details to the press, Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Harkamal Preet Singh Khakh stated that based on intelligence, a police checkpoint was established at Madar Gate on October 21. The accused were intercepted while riding two stolen Honda Splendor motorcycles, both bearing the fake registration number PB08-BM-9226. It was confirmed that the gang had been operating across multiple districts, stealing and selling two-wheelers with forged number plates.

“This operation is a crucial step in curbing street crime. The gang was actively stealing vehicles across Jalandhar and Hoshiarpur districts, and their arrest will help reduce vehicle theft in the region,” said SSP Khakh.

The operation was executed by the CIA team led by Inspector Pushap Bali, under the guidance of SP Investigation Mrs. Jagroop Kaur Bath and DSP D Swaranjit Singh. The CIA staff team, with its strategic planning and execution, played a critical role in apprehending the accused.

The gang used fake number plates to avoid detection. During interrogation, the accused disclosed the names of two other gang members, Rupinder Singh alias Gopi and Vishal, who remain at large. Raids are currently underway to apprehend these suspects.

A case has been registered under the Bharatiya Nyay Sanhita (BNS), including Section 303(2) (Theft), Section 317(2) (Receiving stolen property), and Section 345(3) (Forgery). The FIR No. 143, dated October 21, 2024, has been lodged at Police Station Adampur.

The arrested accused will be produced in the local court, and their remand will be sought to further investigate the matter, as more recoveries are likely. Authorities believe this operation will lead to the dismantling of similar networks operating in neighbouring districts.

The police have urged individuals who may have had their motorcycles or scooters stolen to approach Police Station Adampur to verify and identify their vehicles among those recovered.

Issuing a stern warning to those involved in criminal activities, SSP Harkamal Preet Singh Khakh emphasised the Jalandhar Rural Police’s commitment to rooting out organised street crime, stating that all unlawful activities will be met with decisive action.
