Raksha Bandhan is observed on 19th August this year. On this day most of the educational institutions, offices and workplaces are closed.
Banks will remain closed in multiple cities in India. The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) in its list of holidays has designated holidays to banks in a few cities on account of Raksha Bandhan, Birth anniversary of Bir Bikram Kishore Manikya Bahadur and jhulana purnima.
Raksha Bandhan is an auspicious hindu festival celebrated by brothers and sisters to cherish their bond and love. It is celebrated by tying sacred thread to the brothers on their wrist. It is celebrated on the full moon day of Shrawan.
On the other hand, the birth anniversary of Bir Bikram Kishore Manikya Bahadur, the king of Tripura also known as the “Modern Architect of Tripura” born on 19 August 1908, he was the king of Tripura before it merged in India. He was known for his contributions to education and modern architecture in Tripura.
Jhulana Purnima also known as Jhulan Yatra is a Hindu festival that depicts the swinging pastime of Lord Krishna and Goddess Radha. It is majorly celebrated by the Vaishnava sect in the Hindu calendar month of Shravana.
In the RBI’s list of holidays, banks will observe holidays in seven days considering national and religious events except the weekends.
The physical banking services will be closed in both public and private banks in most of the cities whereas the customers can easily avail the digital bankings such as internet banking, whatsapp payments, online banking, NEFT, etc.
Customers should check their local branch prior to visiting the bank. Physical banking services will remain closed in cities like Agartala, Ahmedabad, Bhopal, Bhubaneswar, Dehradun, Jaipur, Kanpur, Lucknow and Shimla.
