With the rise of the sand mafia in Punjab, CM Bhagwant Mann is all set to take strict action against them. He has called a meeting of the Mining Department at Punjab Bhawan, Chandigarh today. Apart from Mining Minister Harjot Bains, the entire army of senior officials has been called for the meeting. At the meeting, the government may take drastic steps to eradicate the sand mafia.
Punjab's Mining Minister Harjot Bains said that the Mann government is bringing a mining policy in the next 6 months. All deputy commissioners and SSPs have been instructed in this regard. They have been told in writing that there should be no illegal sand mining anywhere. He asked the officers to mark the legitimate sites and put up flags so that their identity could be clear.
Aam Aadmi Party had raised the issue of illegal sand mining vigorously in the elections also, after which there is great pressure on them to end the mafia. During the time of the elections, Kejriwal said that in Punjab there is sand mafia with nearly Rs 20,000 crore. If their party will come to power, they will give nab these sand mafia and use this money for the welfare of Punjab.
