Under the leadership of Commissioner of Police Swapan Sharma IPS, Commissionerate Police has taken strict actions against the growing threat of online cyber fraud, following the successful campaigns that addressed the issues like drugs, street crime and eve teasing.
A total of 19 informative cybercrime camps were held and 60 schools, colleges and 35 resident welfare associations participated. In 2024, 883 cybercrime complaints were received, out of which 764 have been successfully resolved. Following this, 10 FIRs related to cybercrime have also been registered and investigation has been started.
Commissionerate Police has cautioned that if people receive a call claiming that TRAI is going to disconnect phone or if they are contacted by someone claiming Police, CBI, ED or IT Dept. then they should make sure to verify their claims through offline channels and if someone calls and says, ‘digital arrest’, do not respond. Additionally, avoid answering any calls on video mode, and never click on unfamiliar links.
