Team India management is all set to undergo various changes after the T20 World Cup 2024 as Rahul Dravid has refused to extend as tenure after the ICC's tournament. BCCI is already looking for a new Team India head coach who will guide the squad till the 2027 World Cup. As per reports, BCCI's hunt for Team India Head Coach has stopped at former Indian cricketer Gautam Gambhir and the Indian cricket board has agreed to all demands of the current KKR mentor. It is said that BCCI has accepted all terms and conditions of Gautam Gambhir he laid down in front of the board members and the former cricketer is all set to take the job after the T20 World Cup. As per a report that quoted a source in known development, Gambhir put forward his 5 terms and conditions. Below are the five conditions-
- Want full control over Team India
- Freedom to choose support coaching staff
- CT25 (Champions Trophy) Last chance for senior players
- India's Test team is completely different
- Roadmap ready for the 2027 World Cup
It is said that Gautam Gambhir may axe four senior players of Team India and make him limited to certain formats after the Champions Trophy 2025 which is slated to take place in Pakistan. The senior players include- Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli, Ravindra Jadeja, and Mohammed Shami. Notably, Gambhir will take the harsh call keeping workload management in mind. The former Indian cricketer reportedly wants senior players in the longer format i.e. Test team rather than a limited format, especially T20.
It is pertinent to mention here that under Gautam Gambhir's mentorship, Kolkata Knight Riders clinched the IPL 2024 title. His leadership at KKR has been widely praised, contributing to his rising profile as a top coaching candidate.
Gautam had also expressed his wish to coach Team India. During an event, Gambhir had said, "there is no bigger honour than coaching the national team" adding, "I would love to coach the Indian team. There is no bigger honour than coaching your national team. You are representing 140 crore Indians and those across the globe as well."
