Post the sudden demise of Jalandhar MP Santokh Singh Chaudhary, the announcement of the Jalandhar Lok Sabha by-election can be done anytime soon by the Election Commission. While BJP, AAP and SAD are still finding a perfect person to be the face of elections, Congress on Monday announced their candidate for the Jalandhar Lok Sabha by-election.
Congress on Monday announced that Karamjit Kaur, wife of late MP Santokh Chowdhary will contest for Jalandhar Lok Sabha by-election. The letter of announcing Karamjit Kaur as Congress’s face for election was released by General Secretary of Congress Mukul Wasnik. The letter read that Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge, has decided to nominate Karmjeet Kaur as the candidate from Congress party in the by-election to be held for the Jalandhar Lok Sabha seat. Various Congress leaders like Amarinder Singh Raja Warring, Pratap Bajwa, Pargat Singh congratulated Karanjit Kaur for the same.
The Jalandhar Lok Sabha by-election will surely be held before the month of July. According to rules, it is necessary to conduct the election for the Jalandhar Lok Sabha seat as it became vacant after MP Santokh Chowdhary’s death. For the unversed, Congress MP of Jalandhar Santokh Singh Chaudhary died at the age of 76 after suffering a sudden heart attack. The incident took place on 14th January 2023 during Rahul Gandhi’s Bharat Jodo Yatra. Karamjit Kaur is a former Principal of Government Sports College Jalandhar whereas his son Vikramjit Singh is the current MLA from Phillaur.
