The election committee meeting of the Indian National Congress (INC) was held in Delhi this Sunday morning. Sources say that the remaining 7 seats of Punjab have been discussed in the proceedings. It is being speculated that Congress may announce candidates on some seats by today evening.
INC chief Mallikarjun Kharge and Sonia Gandhi were present during the meeting that began in Delhi on Sunday morning. Other attendees included Punjab affairs in-charge Devendra Yadav, Punjab Congress chief Amarinder Singh Raja Wadding and leader of opposition in the assembly Pratap Singh Bajwa. Reportedly they gaveapresentation regarding 7 seats of Punjab in front of INC chief Sonia Gandhi.
After sending Manish Tiwari, the sitting MP from Sri Anandpur Sahib, a trusted Congress candidate, to Chandigarh, now two names of Rana Gurjit's son Rana Inder Prapat Singh and Ambika Soni have been discussed. Whereas the nomination of Bharat Bhushan Ashu from Ludhiana was considered.
Apart from this, the high command has expressed satisfaction in the name of former Deputy Chief Minister Sukhjinder Randhawa from Gurdaspur. At the same time, Raja Vading's wife Amrita Vading is also being considered for contesting elections in Firozpur.
Till now, Congress has announced its candidates on 6 Punjab Lok Sabha seats. The tickets of 2 former MPs, Gurjit Aujla from Amritsar and Dr. Amar Singh from Fatehgarh Sahib, have been repeated. Apart from these, Jeet Tohinder Sidhu, who left Akali Dal and returned to Congress from Bathinda, former Chief Minister Charanjit Singh Channi from Jalandhar, Sukhpal Khaira from Sangrur and Dr. Dharamvir Gandhi from Patiala have been fielded.
