Jalandhar’s MP from Congress Chaudhary Santokh Singh’s last rites were performed today, a day after his death at his native village Dhaliwal Kadian. The final march with the dead body of Santokh Singh began from Jalandhar’s Football Chowk to his ancestral village.
Jalandhar’s Deputy Commissioner Jaspreet Singh laid a wreath on behalf of Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann, Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla, and District Administration. Vikramjit Singh Chaudhary lit the funeral pyre at the cremation ground.
Prominent others who paid their respects to the departed soul included MLAs Sheetal Angural, Raman Arora, and Balkar Singh besides senior leaders of the Congress Party Rahul Gandhi, Pratap Singh Bajwa, Amarinder Singh Raja Warring, MPs Mohammad Sadiq, Ravneet Bittu & Gurjeet Singh Aujla besides MLAs Rana Gurjeet Singh, Pargat Singh, Avtar Singh Junior Bawa Henry, Dr. Raj Kumar Chabbewal, Hardev Singh Laddi Sherowalia.
Apart from these NCSC Chairman Vijay Sampla, political, social, and religious personalities along with people from different walks of life were also paid their respects.
MP Santokh Singh died of a heart attack during the march at Congress’ Bharat Jodo Yatra yesterday after it marched off from Phillaur. After collapsing the MP was rushed to the hospital but was declared dead., after which Congress leader Rahul Gandhi called off the march until the last rites are being performed.
The information about the death of the MP came at around 8.45 am on Saturday. After which his dead body was taken directly to his home in Jalandhar city. Rahul Gandhi also reached his house to express his grief, he sat there with his family for a long time, expressing his grief over the loss and consoled MP’s wife Karmjit Kaur and Vikramjit Chowdhary
