Congress leader Rahul Gandhi will announce CM face of Punjab on February 6 during his virtual rally in Ludhiana. It was announced by the in-charge of Congress party for Punjab, Harish Chaudhary while addressing the media at party headquarters in Chandigarh on Friday.
There’s a tussle between Navjot Singh Sidhu and Charanjit Singh Channi to be selected as the CM face. Party is trying to play on a safer side and might resort to one solution that is to make Channi and Sidhu, both as the CM face by splitting the tenure of their term between the two. This means Channi and Sidhu both will hold the office for two and a half years.
Congress party might lose if they won’t select Channi as CM face of Punjab. As the SC and ST community has taken the lion’s share of vote bank in Punjab, the Congress is pinning its hopes on Charanjit Singh Channi who belongs to the schedule caste community. The Congress has fielded him from two seats -- Chamkaur Sahib and Bhadaur -- in the state assembly polls.
And by ignoring Sidhu, Congress might lose votes from the Jatt Sikh community. This will cause a big loss to the party. So, both the leaders are equally important for the party. In such a case, the party will play a bet by announcing the names of both the leaders as CM Face of Punjab.

The vote bank is the actual reason responsible for such a step. However, it is not clarified by the party who will be holding the office first.
