Congress won the highest number of wards in Amritsar MC Elections 2024. Congress won 40 out of 85 wards in the city. On the other hand, AAP won 24 wards, while the BJP won in 9 wards in the Amritsar MC Elections 2024.
After winning the highest number of wards in the Amritsar MC elections, the city will get a new mayor from Congress. Vikas Soni and Raj Kanwalpreet Singh Lucky are the two eminent leaders of the party, who are going to compete for this position. Vikas Soni has the experience of his uncle former Deputy CM Om Prakash Soni and the victory of 10 out of 14 councillors in the Central constituency.
Vikas Soni is the nephew of former deputy CM Om Prakash Soni and due to this, he has a good influence in the party. On the other hand, out of 14 seats in Soni's own constituency Central, Congress has won 10 seats. Soni has been an MLA for many times.
Meanwhile, Raj Kanwalpreet Lucky is also one of the most senior leaders in the party. He is considered to be close to MP Gurjit Aujla. He had got the ticket on Aujla's recommendation. Not only did he win the election, but his daughter Dr. Shobhit Kaur has also won.
Regarding the mayorship, former deputy CM OP Soni has said that the decision to make the mayor will not be taken by them but by the party high command. The name that will get approved by the party high command, will become the mayor.
