Women protesting against alleged embezzlement in the Punjab Police constable recruitment exam were beaten up pitilessly by policemen at PAP in Jalandhar on Saturday afternoon.
 
 
It’s been two days today and nearly 40-odd aspirants for the post of constable from Jalandhar and other cities of Punjab have been protesting on the GT Road.
 
 
The protesters first blocked the BSF Chowk on Thursday and then shifted to PAP flyover on Friday. Owing to the protest staged by aspirants, roads to Jalandhar bus stand, PAP and Rama Mandi are still packed with vehicles. Police have been deployed at the scene of the protest.
 
 
On the third day of the protest today, the aspirants staged ‘dharna’ outside the main PAP gate and there were reports of scuffle between police and protesters. Also, videos from the scene are going viral in which policemen could be seen beating up women protesters.

Talking to TrueScoop, the aspirants alleged anomalies in the recruitment process and raised questions over the shortlisted candidates for the next stage of the recruitment process.

They said on Friday they met ADGP-cum-Chairman of the Punjab Police Recruitment Board Gurpreet Deo who tried to pacify them, but they are not convinced by his assurances and want an inquiry by a three-member committee of civil services officials to look into their allegations.
 
 
The candidates further said if their demands were not met, they would not call off their protest anytime soon.
