Coronavirus cases in India mount to 21,393, records 1400 new cases in one day

The total cases of COVID-19 in the country, including 77 foreign nationals mounted to 21393, the Union Health Ministry said on Thursday.

Of the total cases at least 16,454 are active, while 257 people have recovered and 681 people have lost their lives.

Maharashtra reported 5,652 cases and 269 fatalities so far, followed by Gujarat with 2,407 cases and 103 deaths and Delhi with 2,248 cases and 48 deaths.

Number of people who recovered in Maharashtra stands at 789. In the national capital, it is 724 and in Gujarat 179 people have recovered so far.

In Andman Nicobar Islands, the number of reported cases is 18 while 11 have been discharged upon recovery. There has been no death in the archipelago.

Andhra Pradesh has reported 813 cases so far out of which 120 have recovered. The state has seen 24 deaths so far.

There is only one case in Arunachal Pradesh, while in Assam, 35 people are infected with Coronavirus, 19 have been discharged and the state has seen only one death so far. In the neighbouring Manipur, Meghalaya and Mizoram, no new cases were reported on Thursday, as per the union health ministry data.

In Bihar, there is a sharp rise in corona positive patients. The tally has gone up to 143 in the state out of which 46 have been discharged, while 2 people have died of the disease.

In Chandigarh, no new cases were reported on Thursday. The tally still stands at 27 positive cases out of which 14 have been discharged.

Chhattisgarh also saw no new cases. The number of infected people stands at 36, while 26 have recovered and discharged. The state has seen no death so far.

Haryana has reported 262 coronavirus positive cases, out of which 140 have recovered while 3 people have died.

There is no increase of Covid patients in Himachal Pradesh, the tally stands at 40 while recoveries went up to 18 and one person has died in the state.

Jammu and Kashmir has reported 407 cases so far, out of which 92 have been discharged and five people have died of the disease in the union territory.

There is a slight increase of Covid patients in Jharkhand where the number has gone up to 49, while 3 people have died.

In Karnataka, a total of 427 are inflicted with the Covid-19 disease, out of which 131 have recovered and discharged and 17 people have died so far.

Kerala has a total of 438 cases out of which 323 have been discharged while 3 people have died in the state.

Madhya Pradesh continues to paint a grim picture. According to the health ministry's data, the state's infected cases went up to 1592 out of which 148 have recovered and 80 people have died of the disease so far. Indore continues to be the worst affected city.

In Odisha, so far 93 cases have been reported, 32 discharged and 1 person has died of the disease.

No new cases were reported in Puducherry on Thursday. The tally stands at 7.

Punjab has reported 251 cases with 49 recoveries and 16 deaths.

The total tally of infected cases in Rajasthan has reached up to 1890, out of which 230 have recovered and 27 people have died.

In Tamil Nadu, a total of 1629 people are infected with the virus out of which 662 have been discharged and 18 have died.

Telangana has reported 945 cases so far out of which 194 have been discharged and 23 have died.

No new cases were reported in Tripura, the tally still stands at 2 only.

Uttarakhand has not reported any new case. Out of a total of 46 cases, 23 have been discharged.

Uttar Pradesh has witnessed big spike with number of infected cases reaching to 1449 as against 1294 on Wednesday. A total of 173 people have recovered and 21 deaths have been registered.

In West Bengal, a total of 456 people are infected with the virus out of which 79 have been cured and 15 have succumbed to the disease so far, according to the health ministry data.
