According to data from the Union Health Ministry, India on Saturday reported 53,370 new Coronavirus cases, pushing the total tally to 78,14,682, while 650 more fatalities pushed the death toll to 1,17,956. Active covid-19 cases in the country stand at 6,80,680. While the total number of people recovered from the infection are 70,16,046.
The Union Health Ministry on Friday said that India’s active Covid-19 caseload has fallen below 7 lakh for the first time after two months, expressing it as a ‘significant milestone’, whereas the total recoveries in the country have crossed 69 lakhs mark. “With a high number of Covid-19 patients recovering every day along with a steadily falling and sustained low mortality rate, India’s trend of registering decreasing active cases continues,” it stated.
Meanwhile, Bharat Biotech which has received approval for advance stage human trials for its Covid vaccine candidate, expects the vaccine to be ready by June 2021 unless the government proceeds with its launch through emergency use authorisation.
Sai Prasad, executive director, Bharat Biotech International Ltd said, the firm plans to test over 20,000 volunteers across 12to 14 states for Covaxin, its indigenous candidate. “If we get all the approvals in place, I think during Q2 of 2021, we should get the efficacy readout from our phase-3 clinical trial April, May, June, for example. That is for the full efficacy results,” Prasad said.

# Odisha reports 1,695 new COVID-19 infections and 15 deaths. The total cases stand at 2,79,582 out of which 18,882 are active cases. The death toll now stands at 1,229.
# According to the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, the COVID-19 case fatality rate in the country has further declined to 1.51 per cent.

# The COVID-19 tally of Sikkim increased to 3,770 as 43 more people tested positive for COVID-19, yesterday. Sikkim at present has 242 active COVID-19 cases, while 3,383 patients have recovered from the disease.
# Madhya Pradesh’s covid-19 tally yesterday increased to 1,65,294 after 953 persons tested positive for the disease, while 13 deaths took the toll to 2,855. A total of 1,325 patients were discharged from hospitals in the last 24 hours, taking the state's overall recovery count to 1,50,678.
# Assam reported four COVID-19 deaths yesterday, following which the toll reached 900. The state also reported 427 new cases, taking the tally to 2,03,709.
# According to the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR), a cumulative total of 10,13,82,564 samples have been tested for COVID-19 up to October 23 with 12,69,479 samples being tested on Friday.
