The Union health ministry said, India may have the second-highest number of COVID-19 cases, but the country has one of the lowest deaths per million in the world. According to the health ministry data, India has the lowest deaths per million among countries with the highest caseload. Brazil stands first with 706 deaths per million. The global average is 138, and India is below that. India has one of the lowest cases per million in the world. The global average is 4,794 whereas India has 5,199 Covid-19 cases per million. With 23,911 Brazil has the highest number of cases per million which is followed by the United States with 23,072 cases.
India also has the highest recovery rate in the world that is 87.05 per cent, said the ministry.
On Wednesday India’s covid-19 cases breached the mark of 7.2 million after 63,509 new infection cases were reported in the last 24 hours, as per the Union health ministry. There is a marginal increase from Tuesday’s spike of 55,342 as the nation continues to report less number of cases every day. Despite this rise, the active number of cases remain below nine lakh mark with 8,26,876 active cases and 63,01,927 patients being cured and discharged so far, the Union Health Ministry has said in its latest update.
India recorded 730 deaths in the last 24 hours, pushing the total death toll at 1,10,586, according to data from the Union Health Ministry. The total number of confirmed COVID-19 cases in India is 72,39,389.

# The World Bank has approved $12 billion for developing countries to finance the purchase and distribution of COVID-19 vaccines, tests and treatment. It said the finances, “aims to support vaccination of up to a billion people.” The money is a part of WB Group (WBG) package of up to $160 billion through June 2021 designed to help developing countries battle the novel coronavirus pandemic.

# The Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) has said that 9,00,90,122 samples were tested for COVID-19 in the country till yesterday (October 13). Of these, 11,45,015 were tested yesterday.
# Kerala's COVID-19 tally crossed the three lakh mark yesterday as 8,764 new cases were reported and the death toll has climbed to 1,046 with 21 more fatalities. The total COVID-19 cases in the state stand at 3,01,896 with the addition of the new cases, Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan.
