According to the Union health ministry, India on Saturday reported 44,684 new coronavirus cases taking the country’s caseload to 8,773,479. As many as 81,635,72 patients have been discharged from the hospitals while the active cases are 480,719. With 520 new fatalities, the death toll due to COVID-19 has increased to 129,188.
On Friday, the health ministry said that active Covid-19 cases in the country have remained below five lakh or 5.55 per cent of the cumulative caseload. This could be possible because the Covid-19 recoveries have been exceeding new cases, which has reduced the total net of the active caseload.
India’s recovery rate has touched 92.97 per cent. It further said that 77.83 per cent of the new recovered cases are observed to be concentrated in 10 states and union territories.
Delhi remains to be the biggest contributor in the country’s total caseload with 7,800 cases being reported in a single day. Haryana is in the middle of a surge as it reported nearly 2,700 cases and has become the fastest-growing state after Delhi and Kerala.
Meanwhile, the World Health Organisation (WHO) chief Tedros on Friday declared that it will establish a global centre for traditional medicine in India. Mr Tedros said, “This new centre will support WHO’s efforts to implement the WHO traditional medicine strategy 2014-2023 which aims to support countries in developing policies and action plans to strengthen the role of traditional medicine as part of their journey to universal health coverage and a healthier, fairer and safer world.”
