Coronavirus updates: India COVID-19 active cases fall for 5th straight day; tally breaches 68-lakh mark

Active COVID-19 cases fall for the 5th consecutive day and 15th time in the last 19 days in the country. Active cases have fallen by 42,571 in the last 5 days and more than one lakh in the last 3 weeks while recoveries continue to be more than the total number of cases. Recoveries from the infection have risen by 83,011, the biggest single-day rise in the last 7 days. According to the Union Health Ministry data on Thursday, India has 78,524 COVID-19 cases taking the virus caseload to over 68 lakh, while the number of patients recovered is 58,27,704. The national recovery rate stands at 85.25 per cent. The total infection cases mounted to 68,35,655, while the death toll has reached 1,05,526 with 971 people succumbing to the disease in the last 24 hours. The country has 9,02,425 active cases of coronavirus cases while the fatality rate has dropped to 1.54 per cent.  

 On Thursday at the launch of 'Jan Andolan' campaign for COVID appropriate behaviour in the view of the upcoming festivals, winter season and opening up of the economy, Prime Minister Modi, has appealed to people to follow social distancing norms and expressed his confidence in winning the battle against the pandemic.  Covid-19 latest updates: 

# Telangana reported 1,896 new COVID-19 cases, taking the tally to 2,06,644, while the death toll rose to 1,201 with 12 more fatalities, a state government bulletin said on Thursday. About 50,367 samples were tested in the state on October 7.  

 # Assam's COVID-19 death toll rose to 785 after seven more patients died of the disease, while 1,307 new positive cases took the tally to 1,90,209, Health and Family Welfare Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma said. 

 # Two Kerala ministers have tested COVID-19 positive. The state recorded the highest single-day increase of COVID-19 cases on Wednesday with 10,606 people testing positive and the infection tally crossed the 2.50 lakh mark. 

 # Union Minister of Parliamentary Affairs, Coal and Mines Pralhad Joshi tested positive for COVID-19 on Wednesday and is under home quarantine

 # Sikkim registered 18 new COVID19 cases, taking the coronavirus tally to 3,236 on Wednesday, an official said. According to the Information Education and Communication member Sonam Bhutia, the state also reported two COVID19 fatalities, pushing the death toll to 51. 

 # On Wednesday, Karnataka reported its highest single-day spike of over 10,900 COVID19 cases and 113 fatalities. The total number of infections in the state rose to 6,68,652 and death toll to 9,574. As many as  9,832 patients have recovered and the active cases stood at 1,16,153, the health department said. 

 # Jharkhand's COVID-19 tally rose to 89,702 today with 829 more people tested positive for the disease, a health official said. The state's coronavirus death toll rose to 767 after 10 people died today due to the infection. Jharkhand now has 9,759 active coronavirus cases, while 79,176 people have been cured of the disease. 

 # Andaman and Nicobar Islands today saw a rise of 3,935 COVID-19 cases as 23 more people tested positive for the infection. 

 # 260 people, including two security personnel, have tested positive for COVID-19 in Arunachal Pradesh. The total number of coronavirus cases in the state is 11,267 as reported on Thursday.

 # On Thursday, 82 new Covid-19 cases and two deaths have been reported in Ladakh, taking the total number of active cases in the union territory to 1,228.
