Court: State vs A Nobody is a story of a 19-year-old boy named Chandu who falls in love with a 17-year 8-month-old Jabilli. Ever since its release, Court: State vs A Nobody has made its way into the most-watched movies of the week on Netflix. Hence, fans are digging deep into Court: State vs A Nobody Real Story or Court: State vs A Nobody True Story. Below is all you need to know about Court: State vs A Nobody on Netflix or Court: State vs A Nobody Real Story-
Is Court: State vs A Nobody a true story?
The answer is yes and no at the same time. Court: State vs A Nobody is a fictional depiction of the misuse of the stringent POCSO act in India. As mentioned above Court: State vs A Nobody revolves around the love story of Chandu and a minor named Jabilli who were in a relationship out of their consent. However, despite this, Chandu was arrested by the regional police and he was kept on 78 days of judicial remand under the POCSO act without any bail.
Court: State vs A Nobody showcases Priyadarshi Pulikonda playing a rookie Advocate named Surya Teja who is working under a big lawyer named Mohan Rao played by P. Sai Kumar. The movie starts with the court finding Chandu guilty under POCSO and the judgement is to be announced on Monday. However, Chandu's big brother reaches out to Advocate Mohan who refuses to take his case. But, Surya Teja decides to fight Chandu's case, and slowly the storyline develops.
The Netflix movie showcased that it was Jabili who approached Chandu from her side. Chandu was the son of a watchman and he was not doing well economically. On the other hand, Jabilli came from a well-to-do family, a Sarpanch family to be exact.
Jabilli's brother-in-law (Jija) owns a rice mill but is quite well-connected with politics and has both money and power. Hence, after he came to know about the affair of Jabilli and Chandu, he gets the 19-year-old boy arrested. With the help of a powerful lawyer, he forced and bribed the police officials to slap Chandu with fictitious charges including the stringent POCSO under which he can face 14 years of jail.
Court: State vs A Nobody Real Story
Notably, the makers have clarified that Court: State vs A Nobody is a fictional story but it is inspired by real-life incidents. Hence, True Scoop tried to dig into similar cases as shown in the Netflix movie.
In September last year, the Delhi High Court closed the criminal proceedings in a POCSO case emanating from a romantic relationship between a 19-year-old man and a minor girl. The HC stated that if the FIR is not quashed, the lives of three individuals -- the duo as well as their newborn -- will be destroyed. The court said it was passing the order on "humanitarian grounds" in view of the "exceptional circumstances", as it noted that the petitioner man and the 17-year-old in the case were neighbours and got married in August 2023 out of their own free will.
The matter was reported to the police after the girl went to a hospital in the final stages of her pregnancy and since she was a minor, the authorities there informed the police and an FIR was registered for the alleged commission of offences under the Indian Penal Code and the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act.
Notably, True Scoop does not intend to say that the Netflix movie is based on this particular case. It has only presented a case that is available in public domain that somewhat resembles to the story of the movie.
