Bharat Biotech released a factsheet in which they have explained who should take the vaccine and who should skip it amid rising concerns due to pending Phase 3 results.
Bharat Biotech said, people with weaker immunity, who are previously on medication and allergies should skip taking two dose Covaxin prepared by them.
The government had earlier said that patients who are on immuno-uppressants or have immune deficiency could take the vaccine but the response would be less effective in such individuals. Immune suppressed are those people who are cancer patients and undergoing chemotherapy and similarly HIV patients are also at greater risk.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi launched nationwide inoculation drive against Covid-19 with two vaccine candidates approved by the Drugs and Controller General of India (DCGI), on January 16.
While Covaxin is an indigenous vaccine prepared by Hyderabad based Bharat Biotech, Covishield is prepared by Serum Institue of India that is an equivalent of Oxford-Astrazeneca vaccine.
Meanwhile, some 580 adverse reactions were reported yesterday and two deaths were reported from Uttar Pradesh and Karnataka. However, it has been said that these are not linked to the vaccines.
In its factsheet, Bharat Biotech has mentioned that those who have fever, bleeding disorder or who have thinner blood or have a history of allergies or women who are expecting or breastfeeding should not be given Covaxin shot.
Similarly, both the vaccines (Covishield and Covaxin) should not be mixed or these are not interchanged.
The side-effects of the vaccine include pain, swelling and itching where the vaccine has been injected on the body, rashes, nausea, weakness, fever among others.
People who are taking the Covaxin are been advised by the experts to reveal their medical histories.
Bharat Biotech clarified, "Additionally, there is a remote chance that the Covaxin could cause a severe allergic reaction. For this reason, your vaccination provider will ask you to stay for 30 minutes after each dose of vaccination at the place where you received your vaccine for monitoring after vaccination."
