On Saturday, the number of deaths from Coronavirus has crossed 100,000 according to the official data. As the pandemic continues to rage across the country, a total of 100,842 people have succumbed to the disease, reports the health ministry. India now has the third highest death toll in the world after the United States and Brazil. The recovery rate is 83.84 percent. The total number of COVID-19 cases has reached to 64,73,544 with 79,476 new cases reported everyday.
Number of active cases in the country are 9,44,996 while the total number of recoveries have surged to 54,27,706. The fatality rate recorded is at 1.56 percent. According to the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR), a cumulative total of 7,78,50,403 samples have been tested up to October 2, of which 11,32,675 were tested on Friday.
"We do not know the reliability of death rates in India," virologist T. Jacob John said. "India does not have a public health surveillance system, documenting real-time all disease events and deaths," he said.

From today, the campaign will begin in all districts and ministers in-charge will go to their respective districts, distribute masks and urge people to wear it.
# Uttar Pradesh Deputy Chief Minister Keshav Prasad Maurya has tested positive for Covid-19. He has urged the people to get themselves tested who had come to his contact in the past few days.
# Andaman and Nicobar Islands have seen a rise in COVID-19 tally. It has recorded 3,858 new cases today as 10 more people tested positive for the infection, a health official told. Kerala also reported 9,258 new cases of the novel coronavirus on October 2, its highest single-day spike, taking its tally to 2,13,499.
# With over 14.16 lakh cases, Maharashtra’s COVID-19 tally remains the highest among Indian states and union territories, according to the Union Health Ministry's latest update.
