“India is showing a trend of declining average daily cases over the past 5 weeks,” the ministry wrote on Twitter. According to the government, the average daily cases between September 9 and September 15 stood at 92,830, which came down to 90,346 between September 16 and September 22. India saw a declining shift with 83,232 average new cases between September 23 and September 29 and in the corresponding two weeks, the average cases dropped to 77,113 and 72,576, as per the data shown by the government.
The ministry also stated that there has been a decrease in the number of active cases. After a month, on October 9, active cases fell below the 900,000-mark and have steadily followed a downward slope since it said in the tweet. On Monday, India saw a fall of 54,265 Covid-19 cases, taking the tally to 7,175,880 and the death toll reached 109,894.
In another tweet, the ministry also praised the testing efforts the healthcare system is putting. It said, “The Centre in close collaboration with the State/UT governments has adopted a graded strategy of #COVID19 management and public health response. Sustained efforts of Test Track Trace Treat Technology are progressively yielding encouraging outcomes.”
Coronavirus daily developments:
# On Monday, Haryana recorded 1,066 fresh coronavirus cases, taking the number of infections in the state to 1,43,221, and 13 deaths, according to a Health Department bulletin. So far, 1,592 people have died from the infection in the state.
# We're expecting that early next year we should have vaccines in the country from maybe more than one source. Our expert groups are formulating strategies to plan on how to roll out the distribution of the vaccine in the country, said the Union Health Minister during a meeting.
# With a spike of 55,342 new Covid-19 cases and 706 deaths in the last 24 hours, India’s caseload stands at 71,75,881, says the Union health ministry. There are 8,38,729 active cases, whereas 62,27,296 patients have been cured/discharged/migrated and 1,09,856 deaths reported.
# 18 new Covid-19 cases reported in Mizoram, taking the total tally to 2,202. The number of active cases in the state is at 156 while 2,046 people have been discharged so far. The state has no death reported by far.
# Many states have seen diminishing covid-19 cases but the situation in states like Karnataka, Kerala and Bengal seems alarming. Karnataka recorded 7,606 fresh cases which were higher than 7,089 cases registered by Maharashtra.
# The Centre for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), Atlanta, has issued a warning saying that people who are not just obese but those with moderately excess weight may be at higher risk of severe Covid-19. This could be a serious notice for Indians as 40% of Indians are obese and overweight, according to the fourth National Family Health Survey (NFHS) data.
# 1,169 new Covid-19 cases, 1,442 recoveries reported in Gujarat.
# 2,275 new COVID-19 cases and 2,577 recoveries were reported in Odisha on Monday. Total confirmed cases in the state have increased to 2.56 lakh, including 2.30 lakh recoveries and 25,635 active cases.
# Telangana state reported 1,708 new COVID-19 cases, pushing the tally to 2.14 lakh while five more deaths pushed the toll to 1,233. The fatality rate in the state stands at 0.57 per cent.
# The Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) has said that 8,89,45,107 samples were tested for COVID-19 in the country till yesterday (October 12). Of these, 10,73,014 were tested yesterday.

# Jharkhand recorded 510 new COVID-19 cases, 890 recoveries and 11 deaths on Monday. Total confirmed cases in the state have risen to 93,035, including 84,461 recoveries and 798 deaths. The state has 7,776 active covid cases.

# Kerala reported 5,930 COVID-19 cases on Monday. The total infection cases in the state are 2.93 lakh, while the death toll reached 1,025 with 22 fatalities. The state had recorded its highest single-day spike on October 10 when it had reported 11,755 cases. The total recoveries so far stand at 1.99 lakh and 94,388 people are presently under treatment, said Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan.
# With 732 new infection cases on Monday, Bihar's covid-19 tally stands at 1.96 lakh. The state recorded nine fresh fatalities, yesterday. The state's coronavirus death toll rose to 955. The recovery rate among COVID-19 patients in the state stands at 94.21 per cent. Patna has reported the highest number of COVID-19 cases at 30,946, followed by Muzaffarpur 8,878.
