In a major step to ease out business activities in the district, Deputy Commissioner Ghanshyam Thori on Monday extended operational timing for non-essential shops/establishments/offices by one hour thus allowing them to operate till 6pm on weekdays.

Reviewing the orders passed earlier, Jalandhar DC has now extended the working hours for non-essential category to 6 pm from 5 pm.

Divulging the details, Deputy Commissioner Ghanshyam Thori said that all categories of goods/services including private enterprises, businesses and officers which fall under the category of non-essential services can function from 9am to 6pm between Monday-Friday till further orders.

Notably, the services falling under the category of essential services are allowed to open from 5am to 6pm daily, which would follow the same timings till any fresh orders are issued. The DC further added that the step aimed at easing out business activities in Jalandhar amid this ongoing health crisis as a large number of representatives from trade and industry had been demanding for further relaxations.

Besides, all restaurants (including in hotels), Cafes, Coffee shops, fast food outlets, Dhabas, bakery, sweet shops, confectioners, etc. to remain closed for dine-in. No seating inside all of these to be allowed. Takeaway is possible from 9 AM to 6 PM (Home delivery is to be encouraged from 9 AM to 9 PM). If there is crowd outside these shops and Covid guidelines not followed, then Police shall take strict action in accordance to relevant sections of this order. Online delivery platforms/own staff can facilitate home delivery in these establishments,

Mr. Thori further called upon people to strictly follow Covid appropriate behavior in order to keep virus spread under check. He also urged shopkeepers to ensure proper adherence of norms like social distancing, using masks at market places while ensuring business activities in a segregated manner.
