Delhi on Wednesday has broken all the records of the highest number of Covid-19 cases since the pandemic began with 17,282 new infections and 104 casualties.
The latest caseload takes the total count of cases in Delhi to 7,67,438 with 50,736 active cases. The death toll has also seen an upsurge to 11,540 with 104 deaths in a single day. With this number of fatalities, crematoriums and graveyards across the Union Territory are struggling to manage the resources.
The second wave which has hit hard has put Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal in a distressful situation. CM Kejriwal is likely to hold a meeting with Lieutenant Governor Anil Baijal on Thursday morning to take stock of the situation and to mitigate the risk of new infections. In the meeting, Health Minister Satyendra Jain will also take part.

Amidst the sudden spike in the cases, CM Kejriwal led Aam Adami Party (AAP) has also released the orders to transform a few hotels into extended Covid-19 health centres, which include Hotel Pitrashish, Fraser Suites, Caspia Hotel, Crown Plaza Hotel, Seven Sea Hotel, among others, as the hospitals are flooded with the patients with all beds occupied.
The government has also urged the people with mild Covid symptoms to isolate themselves at home so that hospitals do not get crowded. For the same, last week, the Delhi government had directed the health centres to strictly adhere to the latest admission norms while admitting infected patients.
