The Crown Season 6 Real Story: Princess Diana's Accident

For those who are unaware, Diana was the Princess of Wales. She was the first wife of Charles III (then Prince of Wales) and mother of Prince William and Harry. Princess Diana was globally knwon for her activism and glamour. Diana's marriage to Charles suffered due to their incompatibility and extramarital affairs. Diana and Charles got separated in 1992, soon after the breakdown of their relationship became public knowledge.

Now, lets spin the wheel to Diana's time in Paris where she breathed last. During the summer of 1997, Diana and her boys William and Harry were invited to Mohamed Al-Fayed's (Salim Daw) St. Tropez villa where Al-Fayed's son, Dodi (Khalid Abdalla), made an appearance as well.

Dodi and Diana grew fond of each other and love affair started between the two. Soon, Diana and Dodo's affair caught the eye of media and papparazzi. As per reports, Diana and Dodo's affair was only a mere six-month romantic affair. However, Diana and Dodi were constantly followed by the paparazzi. In order to evade the media limelight, Diana and Dodo in 1997 flew from Sardinia to Paris to spend some time together. Diana and Dodo planned to eat dinner at Chez Benoit around 9:30 PM, but ended up dining privately in the Imperial Suite of the Ritz in order to avoid the paparazzi. After midnight, they left the Ritz for Dodi's apartment.

Diana, Dodi, and Diana's bodyguard, Trevor Rees-Jones, drove off in a decoy car from the back entrance of the Ritz with hopes of losing unwanted attention from photographers. They were driven by Henri Paul (Yoann Blanc), the head of the Ritz's security, in a Mercedes S280 car. However, papparazis sensed that Diana has taken another and hence they started following her car.

Around 12:25 AM, the car speedily entered the Pont de l'Alma tunnel in order to evade the photographers. However, Paul lost control of the vehicle and struck a pillar under the tunnel. What was more heartbreaking when two eye witnesses, testified to having seen paparazzi climb onto the Mercedes and take more pictures instead of helping the passengers inside the vehicle. Many photographers were taken into custody after Diana's crash under suspicion of gross negligence.
