Crude oil discovered in India; Union Minister Hardeep Puri says 'Badhai Bharat'

Union Minister Hardeep Singh Puri said that the first oil from a deep-sea project, 30 kilometers off the coast of Andhra Pradesh's Kakinada, was extracted on January 7.

The year 2024 started with a bang after Hardeep Singh Puri, India's Union Minister for Petroleum and Natural Gas, on Monday (Jan 8) announced a new oil discovery in the country. Yes! you heard it right. Oil discovery in India sent the netizens into a frenzy as India is already in the process of oil extraction. To be precise, Union Minister Hardeep Singh Puri said that the first oil from a deep-sea project, 30 kilometers off the coast of Andhra Pradesh's Kakinada, was extracted on January 7.

 

Hardeep Singh Puri on Monday took to his official X handle and informed, "As India powers ahead as the fastest growing economy under leadership of PM @NarendraModi Ji, our energy production is also set to rise from the deepest frontiers of #KrishnaGodavari"

 

"First Oil" production commences from the complex & difficult deepwater KG-DWN-98/2 Block, situated off the coast of Bay of Bengal. Production is expected to be 45,000 barrels per day & over 10 million cubic metres of gas per day, contributing towards an energy #AatmanirbharBharat..This project is expected to add 7% to current national oil production & 7% to national Natural Gas production!"

 

Furthermore, Puri also addressed a Press Conference in which he said, "30 kilometres off the coast of Kakinada in the Krishna Godavari Basin, the first oil was extracted yesterday. Work started on this in 2016-17, then there were some delays due to Covid, but I'm sure that out of the 26 wells there, 4 wells are already operational."
