Cyclone Tauktae: Amitabh Bachchan and other bollywood celebs urge Mumbaikars to stay safe

The cyclonic storm Tauktae is expected to strike Mumbai's coastal areas after the city received its first rain of the year. Amitabh Bachchan, took to Twitter to encourage people to stay alive.

On May 14, the India Meteorological Department predicted the formation of a cyclonic storm over the Arabian Sea. As a result, all disaster relief and rescue organizations began planning for the cyclone. Over 50 teams of the National Disaster Response Force were deployed in five states near the coast: Kerala, Karnataka, Tamil Nadu, Maharashtra, and Gujarat.


Amitabh Bachchan, the actor, has recently been very active on social media. During the current pandemic, he has been sharing valuable knowledge about the Covid-19 virus. Now that it's raining in Mumbai, the veteran actor has taken to Twitter to alert residents to be prepared. He prayed for people's safety and stated that the cyclone's effects are visible in his informative but brief post.

He tweeted, “The effects of the #CycloneTauktae have begun .. rains in Mumbai .. please be safe and protected .. prayers as ever.”


Kishori Pednekar, the mayor of Mumbai, also outlined the steps being taken to prepare for the cyclone. She said at a press conference that fire departments are on standby and that about 100 lifeguards have been assigned to emergency rescue and other operations.

Other bollywood celebrities have also taken to their social media and urged fans to stay home and be safe. Kareena Kapoor Khan, Kartik Aaryan, Karisma, and more celebrities have appealed to Mumbaikars to follow the guidelines.



Maharashtra is one of the five vulnerable states that has been impacted by the cyclone's movement.

Meanwhile, the cyclone is expected to continue heading north-west, according to the India Meteorological Department. Its centre will be northwest of Goa by late afternoon.
