Punjab Government on Thursday announced public holidays in Jalandhar and other districts that are set to undergo polls for local body elections. Five MCs of Punjab will undergo elections on December 21 namely- Amritsar, Jalandhar, Ludhiana, Patiala, and Phagwara. In the official order, Punjab Government announced that selected schools and colleges will remain closed from December 20 to December 21, 2024. Interestingly, December 22 is Sunday. It means students are getting a long holiday ahead of Christmas 2024.
Municipal Corporation Election Holidays
It is pertinent to mention here that a one-day holiday has been declared in 5 Municipal Corporations and 44 Municipal Councils of Punjab i.e. on December 21. Two days of public holidays will only be there where there are polling stations. Jalandhar DC Himanshu Aggarwal confirmed this to True Scoop News. Similarly, Ludhiana DC Jitendra Jorwal also confirmed that there will be only one day of public holiday in the district i.e. on December 21.
The official release further revealed the venues where EVMS will be set and voting will take place according to the wards. Below are the list of schools and colleges that will be closed and where the voting will take place-
- Ward Number 1-21- KMV College, Jalandhar, and Sanskriti KMV School, Camps Vidyalia Marg, Jalandhar
- Ward Number 22- 42- Government Model Senior Secondary School Ladowali Road
- Ward 43 to 63- Khalsa College for Women, Kent Road, Jalandhar
- Ward Number 64 to 85- Doaba College, Jalandhar
