In recognition of exemplary courage and bravery shown by 15-year-old Kusum, who foiled snatching attempt despite being sustaining severe wrist injury after attacked by one of accused, the Deputy Commissioner Ghanshyam Thori has announced a cash award of Rs 51000 for the brave girl.
Thori also said that the administration would unveil mascot on the name of Kusum under Beti Bachao-Beti Padhao program in Jalandhar to motivate other girls besides launching ‘Daadi ki Ladli’ an online competition so that the young girls can participate and share their stories regarding how their grandmother support them.
He said that the best three girls would get cash prizes Rs 10000, Rs 5000 and Rs 2000. He said that Kusum has made the Jalandhar proud and she has become a role model for others.
“Kusum has proved that if given wings, the girls can achieve anything. As her family motivated her for NCC and taekwondo which instilled confidence in her and exhibited immense courage during the incident despite her wrist was sustained severe injuries”, she added.

Deputy Commissioner said that the cash award will be given to Kusum by using Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) funds.
He said that the women empowerment was all the more important for the development of the country and prosperity of its people. He said that this would help to transform the destiny of the country in general and that of women in particular.
Deputy Commissioner that ‘Beti Bachao, Beti Padhao’ campaign has helped create a lot of awareness amongst the people to improve skewing sex ratio. He said that persistent efforts are being made for saving the girl child and imparting quality education to the girls.
District Program Officer Gurminder Singh Randhawa said that mascot on the name of braveheart Kusum would be unveiled soon as the team of the department is in talks with her family.
He said that the Dadi Ki Ladli would be an online competition where other young girls will participate. He said that the details of the competition would be shared in the coming days.
