Jalandhar, February 4- The Deputy Commissioner Ghanshyam Thori on Thursday took stock of the ongoing renovation work in Red Cross Old Age Home and directed the executive agency to complete the project by the end of this month.
The old-aged home is undergoing massive renovation at the cost of Rs 12.5 lakh and Panchayati Raj department.
While overseeing the revamp work of 20 rooms and other parts of the building in Maqsudan, Deputy Commissioner stressed that there was an urgent need of up-gradation of the existing infrastructure in Red Cross Old Age Home to ensure a better, safer and homely space to the elders who were abandoned by their own families or did not have anyone to take care of them.
Ghanshyam Thori asked the officials of the Panchayati Raj department to ensure all works get over as soon as possible. He said that he has been closely monitoring the entire work and told any sort of laxity is unwarranted and undesirable.
He also interacted with the people living in the old age home and assured that the district administration is committed to protecting their rights.

Thori, who is also president of District Red Cross Society, told we all must ensure that senior citizens develop a sense of belongingness adding it is our moral duty to respect and care our elders.
The Deputy Commissioner said that Red Cross Society is a social reformatory movement aimed at mitigating the woes of the ailing humanity. He said that this movement is instrumental in rekindling a spirit of compassion, peace, love and brotherhood amongst humanity.
He said that the people especially youth must take lessons
from this social movement which show how can we serve mankind effectively.
Likewise, he added all-out efforts must be made to ensure that message of serving humanity must be inculcated amongst the minds of people.
Earlier, he also talked with the officials in Red Cross Society and asked them to ensure mitigating the woes of needy people visiting them.
