Deputy Commissioner Ghanshyam Thori on Thursday reviewed the finalization of GIS-based Jalandhar Master Plan-2031 being prepared by Punjab Municipal Corporation Infrastructure Development through its consultant the Institute for Spatial Planning and Environment Research (ISPER), Panchkula. 

Presiding over a meeting in the district administrative complex, Deputy Commissioner Ghanshyam Thori accompanied by Additional Deputy Commissioner (G) Jasbir Singh, said that the formulation of a GIS-based master plan has been carried out under the Atal Mission for Rejuvenation and Urban Transformation (AMRUT) scheme. 

He said that under Local Planning Area (LPA), the revenue records of four towns of Jalandhar Master Plan-2031 including Phagwara, Adampur, Alawalpur, Kartarpur, and 229 villages have been digitized. 

The Deputy Commissioner said that for ensuring ease of doing business, the cadastral maps of urban and rural areas falling under LPA, have been made available in the public domain on the government website. Further, it would be now easier to locate the government lands easily with the help of the digitization of cadastral maps, he said. 

He said that ISPER has submitted the draft report on April 29, 2019, and the draft plan was supplied to different departments of Municipal Corporation Jalandhar on January 8 and August 14, 2020, along with other departments including railways, police, Town Planning department for suggestions and objections.

The Deputy Commissioner said that objections and suggestions received from the different departments have been incorporated in the plan. 

He added that the aim behind this work is to develop common digital geo-referenced base maps and land use maps using the Geographical Information System (GIS). Further, this digitized GIS-based master plan would also be linked with the national portal, he said, and added maps have been prepared with very high-resolution satellite (VHRS) images and the GIS technology.
