In view of the upcoming Lok Sabha Elections and Counting on June 1 and 4 respectively, District Magistrate Jalandhar Dr. Himanshu Aggarwal today in pursuance of provisions of Representation of People Act, 1951 specifically section 135 (C) and in compliance of direction of Election Commission of India wide their letter no Elec-2024/R-2464 Crated 22:03 2024, exercising the power conferred upon him by section 54 of the Punjab Excise Act, 1914 hereby declare DRY DAYS for a period of 48 hours from 06:00 PM on 30- 05-2024 till conclusion of Poll on 01-06-2024 and thereafter on day of counting is 04-06-2024 the district Jalandhar
The deputy Commissioner furthrr mentioned that during the DRY DAYS no spirituous, fermented or intoxication liquors or any other substances of similar nature shall be sold, given or distributed at a hotel, eating house, tavern, shop or any other place, public or private, within a polling area.
He also mentioned that no liquor shops, hotels, restaurants, clubs and other establishments selling/serving liquor shall be permitted to sell serve liquor to anyone, whosoever on above mentioned days.
Non-proprietary clubs, star hotels, restaurants etc, and hotels run by anyone even if they are issued different categories of licenses for possession and supply of liquor, should also not be permitted to serve on these days. Likewise, The restriction on the storage of liquor in unlicensed premises shall been forced strictly under the Excise Law.
In view of the emergent necessity of this order, it is being passed ex-parte and addressed to pubic in general. The Commissioner of Police, Jalandhar/Senior Superintendent of Police (Rural), Jalandhar, Deputy Commissioner, Excise, Jalandhar Zone, Assistant Commissioner, Excise, Jalandhar-1 and Jalandhar 2 shall ensure implementation of this order.
