A major update regarding Delhi-Amritsar Expressway has emerged. Union Minister for Road Transport and Highways - Nitin Gadkari has announced that the construction work of the expressway will be started in Punjab in the upcoming two-three months. Following the construction of this highway, travelling between major cities of North India will become more convenient and less time-consuming.
According to reports, this project is considered to be one of the important highway projects for Punjab as it will be covering major districts of Punjab including Amritsar, Jalandhar, Ludhiana and Kapurthala.
It is estimated that after the completion, the travelling time between Delhi and Amritsar will be reduced to four hours and between Delhi and Katra will be cut down by five hours.
Furthermore, Minister Gadkari outlined that toll points will be located at the radius of 60 kilometers which will be removed after three months of revenue collection.
Along with this, the Minister for Road Transport also mentioned that the Katra-Amritsar-Delhi Expressway will be connected to Srinagar-Jammu, reducing travelling time between Srinagar and Mumbai to 20 hours.
It has been anticipated that this route will offer a more convenient road route for the pilgrims, travelling to Mata Vaishno Devi.
Key features of the Expressway -
According to the press release by the Road Ministry, the highway construction will be started from KMP in Delhi and will be built across 137 kilometers in Haryana, 399 kilometers in Punjab, out of which 296 kilometers are already under construction. The remaining length of 135 kilometers will be built in Jammu and Kashmir, out of which 120 kilometers is under construction.
Out of the total land of Punjab, around 50 kilometers will be used to build a 4-lane Amritsar bypass, which will be built at the cost of Rs 1475 crore. The work of this lane is under progress. As per the government, this project will provide better connectivity between Tarn Taran and Amritsar Airport, and will also provide a solution to the traffic problem of Amritsar.
