Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal on Saturday addressed the nation from jail. Yes! you heard it right. AAP Supremo Arvind Kejriwal's wife Sunita Kejriwal read the Delhi CM's message in her official address. AAP shared Sunita Kejriwal's video with the caption 'Arvind Kejriwal's address from jail'. Delhi CM Arvind Kejriwal late Friday night was sent to a 6-day ED remand by the Rouse Avenue Court. Following that many AAP leaders objected to this decision including Delhi Minister Aatishi. Below is what Arvind Kejriwal said in his address from jail via his wife Sunita-
"Your son and brother Delhi CM Arvind Kejriwal has sent a message from the jail - 'my dear countrymen I have been arrested. Whether I am inside the jail or not, I will continue to serve the country. My entire life is dedicated to the country. I have struggled a lot in my life, and I know that this will continue. Therefore, this arrest has not surprised me'."
Arvind Kejriwal on ED remand
The ED had sought 10 days remand of AAP National Convenor Arvind Kejriwal to ask about the money trail which has popped up in the investigation. However, the court granted only 6 days remand of the Delhi CM. Delhi CM Kejriwal will now be produced before the court on March 28, 2024.,"
Arvind Kejriwal's lawyer Madan Lal addressed the media after the court's order and explained the reason behind the court's decision. "ED was asking for a 10-day remand. They said that to trace the money trail, a custodial investigation is necessary. Considering all aspects, the judge gave a 6-day custodial remand. He will be presented here again on 28 March. ED argued that the money used for the Goa elections was ill-gotten. They said they have statements of some witnesses which prove this fact..," said Madan Lal.
In its argument, ED alleged that the CM of Delhi is the key conspirator and kingpin in demanding kickbacks from businessmen. The agency further claimed that Kejriwal was directly involved in the formation of the Excise policy. ED's counsel claimed that Vijay Nair, who was the media in charge of AAP, was working for Delhi CM Kejriwal. Nair, who the agency said lives adjacent to the residence of Kejriwal, acted as a middleman between the AAP and the South group.
