The Election Commission of India (ECI) on Tuesday announced Delhi Assembly Elections 2025 Schedule. Election Commissioner Rajiv Kumar rubbished claims on miscounting of votes through EVMs. He said, "...There were certain kinds of concerns that were raised (by political parties). It was said that wrongful addition and deletion were made in electoral rolls... It was also said that certain groups are targeted and their names are deleted. Even after giving a reply about EVM - it was said that EVM can be manipulated..."
Election Commissioner Rajiv Kumar in his address informed that there are a total of 1.55 Crore electors in Delhi. Below is a breakdown-
- Young voters aged 20-29: -71.74 lakhs
- First-time voters aged 18-19: -2.08 lakhs
- Male electors: -83.49 lakhs
- Female electors: -71.74 lakhs
The ECE further informed that there are 13,033 polling stations are in place, covering 2697 locations. 100% webcasting will ensure transparency and accessibility. 70 polling stations will be managed by PwDs, promoting inclusivity.70 polling stations will be managed by women, empowering female leadership, and 210 Model Polling Stations will serve as examples of best practices.
On allegations of changing voter turnout
Chief Election Commissioner Rajiv Kumar in the press briefing said, "...It is impossible to change voter turnout...Some polling parties report at midnight or the next day. Form 17C is matched before counting. There is nothing which VTR does not explain. It explains fully."
Delhi Elections 2025 Schedule
The Election Commission announced that Delhi Elections 2025 will take place in single phase. The voting for Delhi Elections 2025 will take place on February 5, 2025 i.e. on Wednesday, The counting of votes will be on February 8, 2025.
