The Delhi High court, on May 13, criticized the caller tune public service message put in place by the Center asking people to get vaccinated at a time when there is a huge shortage of Covid19 vaccines in India. The HC has expressed its annoyance with the term ‘irritating caller tune’.
Lashing out on center, HC said, “You have been playing that one irritating message on the phone whenever one makes a call, for we do not know how long, that people should have the vaccination, when you don’t have enough vaccine.”
You are not vaccinating people, but you still say that get vaccinated. Who will get vaccinated, when there is no vaccination?” a bench including Justice Vipin Sanghi and Rekha Palli said.

The bench further added that government needs to be innovative in such things, saying, “You should give it to everyone. Even if you are going to charge money, give it. That is what even children are saying.”
The High Court also said that the government should prepare more such messages instead of continuously repeating that one message. “Till like a tape it stops running or starts skipping, you will run it for 10 years,” HC said.
“So please have more of them. When a person hears a different one every time, maybe it will help him/her,” the bench said.
The court also suggested collaborating with television anchors and producers to create short awareness programs about the topics like the use of oxygen concentrators and cylinders, and vaccination. The bench recommended another creative way to disseminate information- Celebrities like Amitabh Bachchan to do interviews with doctors.
While urging authorities not to waste time, the HC said, “You need to do it fast. There should be a sense of urgency.”
