Covid-19 pandemic has led everyone in different directions irrespective of their future plans. Many people lost their jobs and many have received lesser income but Delhi is determined to get back on its track of employment despite the corona period.

Delhi government’s job portal ‘Rozgar Bazaar’ launched by chief minister Arvind Kejriwal on July 27 has helped more than 11 lakh jobseekers get employed so far. However, the number of jobseekers registering on the portal and employers listing jobs is growing by the day. The portal was launched by Kejriwal last month to bridge the gap between jobseekers and employers and help revive the economy.

More than 22 lakh jobs have been listed on the portal till date. The total number of ‘active’ vacancies on the portal till Monday was 8,08,582 under more than 30 categories and the number of registered jobseekers was 10,53,286. Of the total 32,510 employers who have registered till date, the number of ‘active’ employers with job listings is 9,186.

The highest number of jobseekers – 3,71,915 – want ‘back office’ and data entry jobs. Other than that,  categories of job seekers include teaching jobs (1,54,650), and accountants (1,43,671). Among those who have registered, a substantial number of jobseekers are graduates, postgraduates and diploma holders.

Among the top categories of jobs available after sales, marketing and business development are back office and data entry jobs (4,55,241), followed by customer care and tele-caller jobs (2,38,843), domestic and corporate services jobs (1,68,591) and accountancy jobs (1,62,968).

Hailing this as a new “Delhi model” for success, employment minister Gopal Rai said over 6,000 companies have advertised on the web portal and nine lakh vacancies are still open for applying.

Rai said, “Following the coronavirus lockdown, a large number of people faced unemployment in Delhi. Companies had a shortage of workers after many of them left Delhi in the lockdown.” “Considering this, Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal launched this job portal — the Rozgar Bazar… It has created a new model to get the economy back on track and offer employment to people,” he added.

Among the companies that have offered jobs through the portal include the Aditya Birla Group, Reliance, Amazon, HDFC bank, and Assam Tea. About 8.60 lakh job seekers have applied for nine lakh vacancies that are available at present. The jobs that are “in demand” include roles for customer support, teaching, accountants, product delivery, and HR roles.

Nearly 3.5 lakh job posts were earlier cancelled by the government because they were found to be either fake or getting duplicated.

Gopal Rai further said,“We appeal to everyone who wants employment to register on the website… If you know someone in your neighbourhood who is in need of work and can’t access the website, then you can help them access it through your smartphone."

He added that a poster campaign would be launched in the coming days to promote the job portal and encourage more registration. The portal can be accessed through jobs.delhi.gov.in.
