People of National Capital Delhi are breathing the cleanest air of the year. On May 20, Delhiites witnessed the cleanest air day of the year 2021. The view of blue skies was similar to last year’s scene experienced during the coronavirus-induced lockdown.
As per most monitoring stations, the air quality of the city turned ‘good’ for the first time this year. A day before, the national capital had received very heavy rainfall and the air quality index dropped below 50 at several places.
The overall AQI (Air Quality Index) for the day was 58 which is classified as ‘Satisfactoy’ and as per the Central Pollution Control Board application, around seven stations in Delhi were in the ‘good' category with Najafgarh recording an AQI of 30.

AQI between 0 to 50 is good, 51 to 100 is satisfactory and 101 to 200 is considered moderate.
On Tuesday, May 18, the AQI of Delhi was recorded at 93 points. The much-needed change in Delhi AQI is due to seasonal activities due to cyclonic storms and western disturbances. The air quality index improved further on Wednesday, as it stood at 78.
In 2020, Delhi had witnesses five days with ‘good’ category air quality. As the nation went under lockdown due to coronavirus, the traffic volume also got low. Industries also did no contributed to air pollution as they were also shut due to lockdown.
Four out of these five good air days were reported in August.
