Popular Punjabi singer and actor Diljit Dosanjh recently found himself at the center of a discussion after comments he made about the poor infrastructure for live concerts in India went viral. During a performance in Chandigarh Diljt expressed his disappointment leading to confusion among fans and parking outline debates.
The incident occurred during his Dil-luminati tour stop in Chandigarh on December 14. In the middle of his performance, Diljit spoke about the lack of proper infrastructure for large-scale concerts in India. In videos circulating on social media, he was heard saying in Punjabi “Here we don’t have the infrastructure for live shows this is a source of many people get work I’ll try next time that the state is at the center so that you can be around eight if this happens I won’t do shoes in India that’s for sure.”
The statement spread like wildfire and left fans shocked and concerned that Diljit might stop performing in India altogether. Took to social media to clarify his remarks. Explained that his statement was misunderstood and that he was referring specifically to venue issues in Chandigarh, not the entire country. Clarification post he wrote in Punjabi “Nope I said Chandigarh ch venue di problem c (I said the problem was with the venue in Chandigarh). So jab tak sahi venue nahi mil jata, mai tak tak Chandigarh mai net show plan nahi karunga (so, I said that until I get the right venue in Chandigarh, I will not plan another performance in the city). That’s it”
However, Diljit deleted his post shortly after sharing it, which asses to the confusion. This action by him shows that now the singer is least interested in providing any further clarification. As in the last tweet, Diljit expressed his frustration saying that no matter how much effort he makes to show his love for the nation but still the critics will still find ways to demean him. his frustration was even evident in the statements he made at the concerts, like why was he pointed out for the songs made on alcohol, while the singer supported his stand by saying that he has even released two spiritual songs, but nowhere those songs were talked about. a couple of months before, Diljit has released two songs one he dedicated to Guru Nanak dev ji and the other song was on Bhagwan Shiv, again reflecting his spiritual connection. retrospectively people were still inclined towards the other songs in common. Later while clarifying his intention on the 'Panjab' spelling controversy also he mentioned how pointless allegations are made against him by the critics. Although Diljit effortlessly reflects a tint of parochialism for Punjab from his aura, yet again being a parochialist a state should not be offensive.
Despite the controversy, the Diljit ’s-Luminati tour has been a massive success across India, with sold-out shows in cities like Delhi, Hyderabad, and Ahmedabad. His concerts have drawn enthusiastic crowds, celebrating his music and his rise as a global artist after successful tours in the US, Canada, and Europe
