Recently, popular Punjabi singer Diljit Dosanjh had received notice from the Telangana government and the notice warned him not to perform songs promoting consumption of alcohol or drugs during his concert in Hyderabad.
On 17th November, Diljit shared a reel from his Ahmedabad Dil-Luminati concert, where he was seen talking about the notice. He said, "There’s good news, I have not received any notice today. There’s even better news, I will not sing a song based on alcohol today as well. Because Gujrat is a dry state."
He then talked about his devotional songs and said, “I have sung multiple devotional songs. In the last two days, I have produced two devotional songs. But no one talks about it. Everyone on the TV is talking about the ‘Patiala peg’ song. One of the anchors on the TV said that if actors promote drinking then people criticize the actor, whereas when a singer does the same, audience praise him. But I’m not calling everyone personally, and asking that ‘have you drank Patiala peg today?’ I’m just singing."
“Bollywood has made several songs on alcohol whereas I have sung very few songs based on alcohol. Today I will not sing those songs. It is easy for me to tweak the song. Because I myself don’t drink alcohol. Bollywood artists advertise alcohol, Diljit Dosanjh does not. Wherever I go, I just do my program and leave,” he further added.
Following this, he called for a dry movement. He said, “Let’s start a movement, if these many people come together than we can start a movement. If all of the states declare themselves as dry states, the very next day, I will stop singing songs based on alcohol.”
“During Covid, everything was closed except liquor shops, you cannot fool the youth. I have a better offer. Declare dry day for just a day in whichever city I perform, then I will not sing songs about alcohol,” Diljit added.
He talked about tweaking the song and said, “It’s very easy for me to tweak the song. I’m not a new artist, I will tweak the song; the lyrics will change but the vibe will remain the same."
“If Gujrat is a dry state then I’m the fan of the Gujrat government, I openly support the Gujrat government. Come let’s start this movement, I will stop singing songs on alcohol. Close all the liquor shops in the country. It’s very easy for me, I hardly have 4 to 5 songs based on alcohol. I will not sing them or else I will tweak them,” singer further added.
