Jalandhar, June 13– Deputy Commissioner Dr. Himanshu Aggarwal today urged non-government organisations (NGOs) to play an active role in the socio-economic development of Jalandhar District.
During a meeting with representatives from prominent NGOs, Dr. Aggarwal commended their crucial involvement in voter awareness and facilitation during the recent Lok Sabha Elections.
Dr. Aggarwal invited NGOs to join a major plantation drive aimed at transforming Jalandhar into a clean and green district.
He announced an ambitious plan to plant 4.5 million saplings during the monsoon season, emphasizing the significant role NGOs could play in this environmental initiative.
The administration will distribute saplings to voters across 181 polling booths during the upcoming bye-elections in the Jalandhar West Assembly Constituency as part of this green initiative.
The Deputy Commissioner also called upon NGOs to collaborate with the Jalandhar District Administration in various social initiatives aimed at eradicating social inequalities and supporting the needy. He highlighted the critical role of civil society in national development and encouraged NGOs to continue their dedicated service to the community. He also appealed to once again play a crucial role in voters' awareness and facilitation during the bye polls.
Secretary of the Red Cross Society, Inderdev Minhas, along with representatives from various social organizations, attended the meeting.
