Led by Deputy Commissioner Jalandhar Mr Ghanshyam Thori, Commissioner of Police Dr Sukhchain Singh Gill and Senior Superintendent of Police Mr Naveen Singla the Jalandhar administration today felicitated the members of Indian Hockey squad at Gymkhana club.
Captain of Indian Hockey team Mr Manpreet Singh, Mr Hardik Singh, Mr Mandeep Singh and Mr Varun Kumar, all hailing from district, were honoured by the district administration. They were handed over the lifetime free membership of the club along with a momento with their pictures engraved on them. Earlier, they were given a rousing welcome by a Bhangra team on the tap of drumbeats.
Addressing the gathering Deputy Commissioner, Commissioner of Police and Senior Superintendent of Police described it as a red letter day in the history of Indian Sports. They said that these players have not only brought laurels for the district but have also made the state and country feel proud by clinging the bronze medal after a draught of 41 years. Mr Thori, Dr Gill and Mr Singla said that this medal will act as a stepping stone for the revival of the national game in the country.
The Deputy Commissioner, Commissioner of Police and Senior Superintendent of Police said that the stupendous performance by these young players will inspire many in coming generations to excel in the arena of sports.
Nitin Kohli, President Punjab Hockey, said that it is matter of great pride and honour that these players have been associated with Surjeet Hockey Academy which is the cradle of Hockey in the state.
Tarun Sikka, Honorary Secretary, Gymkhana club said that this is a momentous occasion for the entire country due to which every countryman is rejoicing this victory.
