Diwali is nearing and the concern over the burning of crackers is still in the mind of the government, to control the burning some state governments have banned the sale and purchase of crackers while some of the state governments have given a window of few hours to burst “green” crackers.
On October 29, Supreme Court issued a notice which read that celebration cannot be at the cost of others’ health and clarified that while there is no total ban on the use of firecrackers, those fireworks which contain Barium salts are prohibited.
This year, the festival of lights would be celebrated on November 4.

Check the list and the precautions issued by the states.
1.) Punjab: Recently, the Punjab government has allowed the selling, purchase of green crackers, which could be burst just for two hours on Diwali. The given timing is between 8 pm to 10 pm. Along with this, the government has also shared restrictions on burning crackers on Gurupurab, New Year and Christmas.
2.) Delhi: This year, the UT government has not issued any licence for selling fireworks. Delhi Environment Minister Gopal Rai has announced that the government would take relevant action, under sections of the Indian Penal Code, against the wrongdoer. In a press conference, the education minister was quoted saying, “No licence for selling firecrackers has been issued this year. Despite the ban, we have been receiving reports about the sale of firecrackers”.
3.) Haryana: Today, the state government has announced a ban on the sale and purchase of crackers in the 14 districts near the national capital Delhi amid the festive season. The 14 districts where the sale and bursting of crackers are banned are: Bhiwani, Charkhi Dadri, Faridabad, Gurugram, Jhajjar, Jind, Karnal, Mahendragarh, Nuh, Palwal, Panipat, Rewari, Rohtak and Sonipat.

4.) Karnataka: The state government has announced that people only burst green crackers this Diwali and should strictly follow the Covid related norms as the virus is still here. An order signed by the Chief Secretary P Ravi Kumar read, “Other than green crackers that have been permitted by the Supreme Court in its directions, no other crackers can be sold or burst”.
5.) Maharashtra: The Maha government has not announced any ban but has urged people to celebrate the festival without crackers because of air pollution and Covid-19. It has asked to celebrate the festival with lights and diyas.
6.) Rajasthan: Ashok Gehlot-led government has only permitted the sale and purchase of green crackers during Diwali. As per the instruction by the government, the crackers can be burst between 8 pm and 10 pm during Diwali and Gurupurab, between 6 am and 8 am on Chhat Puja, and from 11:55 pm to 12:30 am on Christmas and New Year’s Eve.
7.) Uttar Pradesh: Yogi Government has allowed the sale and purchase of green crackers. People can burst the crackers for just two hours.
8.) Assam: The Assam Pollution Control Board has imposed a blanket ban on the bursting and selling of firecrackers in the state. The government has allowed green crackers for two hours, between 8 pm to 10 pm.
