Pre Diwali, Dhanteras is celebrated all over India and the tradition is to buy gold, silver jewelry or metal utensils on this day as it is said to bring happiness and prosperity in the house.
This year, according to the dates Dhanteras is falling on two days starting from 22nd October 2022 to 23rd October 2022. The astrologers have stated that Trayodashi Tithi will start at 6.02 pm on 22nd October and will last till 6.03 pm on 23rd October.
Furthermore, Sarvarthasiddhi Yoga is on the whole day of 23rd October which makes the day auspicious for all kinds of purchases and investments that you want to do. On Dhanteras lord Kuber and Lakshmi are worshipped in the evening to wish for good health and lamps along with diyas are lit in the south direction of the house.
Silver or clay idols of Lord Ganesha and Lakshmi can be purchased. Also, anything in silver or steel that depicts the lords can also be bought on Dhanteras.
For most people Dhanteras is associated with money whereas in reality, it is the day to seek blessing from the lord for good health and prosperity in the whole house. This is the reason why Dhanvantari, the god of Ayurveda, is worshiped on this day. In the Puranas, he is also considered as an incarnation of Lord Vishnu.
