Deepawali aka Diwali is a traditional Hindu festival. The word Deepawali means a row of lights and people celebrate it by lighting up their homes and surroundings in order to welcome happiness and prosperity.

Diwali 2024 will be celebrated for 5 days. It will begin with Dhanteras and will come to an end with the celebration of Bhai Dooj. This five-day festival will begin on 29th October with Dhanteras and conclude on 3rd November with Bhai Dooj.

People celebrate this festival by lighting oil lamps, making rangoli, bursting firecrackers, exchanging gifts and worshiping Lord Ganesha and Goddess Lakshmi.

When will be Diwali celebrated at Jalandhar temples?

Initially, the scholars from Basti Sheikh temple, Shiv Durga Mandir Gopal Nagar, Shiv Durga Khatu Shyam Mandir Kamal Vihar, Shiv Mandir Mota Singh Nagar and Baba Balak Nath Mandir Kishanpura had been confused about the Diwali celebration date.

According to Pandit Gautam Bhargava, Pandit Santosh, Shastri, Pandit Rahul Shastri, Pandit Vijay Shastri and other scholars, this time the festival of Deepawali will be celebrated on 1st November as there is no Amavasya Kaal on 31st October. The Amavasya tithi starts on 1st November morning and only on this tithi the ritual of Deep daan can be done.

Rajesh Vij, the general secretary of Shri Devi Talab Mandir, has said that the festival of Diwali is celebrated on the Amavasya date of the Kartik month. This time, according to the Sant Samaj, the festival of Diwali will be celebrated on 1st November.  The auspicious Swati Nakshatra of 1st November also became the reason of taking this decision.

This festival of lights is also connected to Lord Ganesha and Goddess Lakshmi, the goddess of wealth and prosperity. It is believed that worshipping them on this day brings happiness, financial success and good fortune in the coming year.
