District Magistrate (DM) Ghanshyam Thori on Tuesday imposed the restrictions on bursting of firecrackers for Christmas and New Year Celebrations in the jurisdiction of the district.
The District Magistrate said that people can burst the firecrackers from 11.55 pm to 12.30 am only on the eve of Christmas and New Year Celebrations.
He said that only green crackers (those crackers that do not use barium salts or compounds of antimony, Lithium, Mercury, Arsenic Lead, or strontium chromate) would be allowed to be sold and used in Punjab.
Thori said that the bursting of firecrackers is completely prohibited at any time in Silence Zone (i.e near Hospital, Educational institutions, courts, etc.) and within the limits of Suchi Pind and nearby areas of IOC, BPCL, and HPCL Oil Terminals.
He said that the people adhere to the directions of the Punjab and Haryana High Court and Punjab Government and avoid bursting the firecrackers beyond the permitted timings.
The District Magistrate said that the administration would take strict action against the erring persons.
