In a mixed society of India where primitivism and modernism go hand in hand, the people on a wide range of subjects and matters will be seen divided and talking their thoughts out.
This discourse takes place in almost all places of public importance, right from the basic tea stall to the place where the fate of Indians is made, the parliament, the debate, and discussion are always on.
Among that wide range of matters falls an interesting product, alcohol, which is equally close to the one who consumes and to the one who doesn’t cause the latter gets a lot to talk about the former.
Alcohol holds a transcendental spot in Indian society, with the advent of social media we get to see a wide band of activities of drunk people in different forms. Those who even don’t drink can even more or less think and talk about the habit of alcohol consumers.
But how far do you know about the alcohol itself? Its process, its form, its origin, and most important its life. You must have heard the most expensive and the good quality alcohol are the old ones. But one thing is true as well alcohol also has an expiry date. Well, how do the two go hand in hand?
This segment details how it actually happens and what affects the expiry of the liquor in the bottle that you consume.
Whether the alcohol expires or not, the answer to this question depends upon the quality and the nature of alcohol. Implies that some gets expired and some remain consumable for years.
The founder of Cocktails India YouTube channel Sanjay Ghosh explains that spirit containing alcohol such as Gin, Rum, Whisky, Vodka, and tequila doesn’t expire and can be kept for years whereas, Wine and Beer fall in the category that gets expired.
But, why does that happen and what makes Beer and Wine stand out from the rest?
The reason behind the expiry of Beer and Wine:
Beer and Wine have less alcohol and more water contained. The two products are even not distilled so it has a fixed period before which they must be consumed.
Whereas, the spirit contained liquors that are good to consume for a long has more alcohol contain thus making it survive long.

Several experts on the matter have suggested that owing to the less alcohol content in wine, which is 15%, and beer which is approximate between 4-8%, the two must be consumed as soon as their seal is broken. More water content makes it more oxidizable and thus gets expired early.
Is the case the same with spirit content alcohol?
Gin, rum, whisky, vodka, and tequila, the case of consuming as soon as you break their seal doesn’t apply to these products.
Storing it for long after these are unsealed doesn’t make them inconsumable but after days the taste of alcohol indeed differs.
It is always advised to consume them within a year the reason is the same as the non-spirit content of the alcohol that is the oxidation. Which over the due period of time differs the taste of the alcohol.
Why is aged whisky expensive?
You must have seen the label of years pasted on the bottle of whisky, 10, 15, or 20 years, ever pondered why is that? This implies the whisky is that many years old.
Once the whisky is completely made in the consumable form or it is good to go for sale, it is then stored in a wooden barrel for making it mature. The aged whisky has a better taste because of its maturity and it is absolutely not that the whisky is kept inside the drawer in the glass bottle for years.
The notion of aged whisky implies its storage in a wooden barrel. What makes it expensive? The answer to this question comes from availability and supply.
Aged whisky is made less available in the market, which makes them too rare and thus the high price. However, it is the people’s choice that makes them incline more toward the aged or the non-aged whisky.
