ChatGPT, an artificial intelligence chatbot developed by OpenAI was launched in November 2022 and since then it has become everybody’s need. These days people don’t worry about writing long articles, short messages or getting any information about anything as an AI tool named ChatGPT is always at their service. Till now there is no specific app to download ChatGPT. Users simply have to go on a web browser, search for it and after signing up the chatbot is ready to use. Did you ever think that this helping chatbot named ChatGPT can also steal your personal information for the device?
Many researchers have suggested that due to the massively growing popularity of ChatGPT, hackers are now taking advantage of the chatbot to steal users’ personal credentials. A cybersecurity researcher named Kaspersky discovered a fictitious ChatGPT application that is infected with malware that has the potential to steal users’ social media credentials. Basically, as there is no specific app to download ChatGPT, hackers are making fake apps under its name and as soon as you click on it, your personal info gets shared with them.
Talking about how it works is that there is malware developed by a company named Fobo (Trojan-PSW.Win64.Fobo). This app looks exactly similar to real ChatGPT and as soon as you open it, an error message interrupts the installation process after which the user goes back. Even though you exit from that site Fobo malware is still being installed in the background. The malware, according to the researchers, is made to steal login credentials from cookies.
So, the real ChatGPT is not stealing any of your date but the fake one developed by hackers can. It is very important for all to be sure before signing up for ChatGPT and using it.
