Toronto rapper Drake's mansion has been severely impacted by historic flooding following record-breaking storms in the city. The flooding, which resulted from nearly 100mm (four inches) of rain on Tuesday, exceeded the previous daily rainfall record set in 1941. The storm caused widespread disruption, leaving approximately 167,000 homes without power, according to Toronto Hydro.
Drake shared a video on Instagram showing muddy water inundating his home, captioning it with a light-hearted comment, "This better be espresso martini." The footage revealed ankle-deep water rushing through parts of his residence. Emergency services in Toronto were overwhelmed with calls related to the storm, including incidents of people trapped in elevators and rescues from flooded roads.
David Phillips, senior climatologist with Environment and Climate Change Canada, described the storms as part of a new reality, where urban flooding is becoming more common than traditional river flooding. He compared the storms to a "parade" of severe weather events.
Drake's mansion, known as The Embassy, is a sprawling 50,000 sq ft property situated in the affluent Bridle Path area of Toronto. Recently, the mansion has been in the spotlight due to a series of incidents following the rapper's public feud with rival Kendrick Lamar. In May, a security guard at the mansion was shot and seriously injured. The following day, an attempted break-in occurred, and two additional trespassing incidents were reported.
These events have been linked to Lamar's diss track *Not Like Us*, which featured an aerial image of Drake's mansion as its cover art. The track topped the US charts, intensifying the ongoing rivalry between the two rappers, who have exchanged serious allegations through their music.
In a 2020 interview with Architectural Digest, Drake described The Embassy as a symbol of "overwhelming high luxury," emphasizing its intended durability and monumental scale as a lasting legacy.
